The Internet managed to weather the storm of Michael Jackson video watching on Tuesday. Starting at 10 AM PDT (with some streams starting earlier), coverage began on a number of sites.According to Bloomberg, Michael Jackson’s memorial service drew the second-largest online audience for CNN.com, FoxNews.com and MSNBC.com, traffic exceeded only by the inauguration of President Barack Obama.
CNN.com streamed 9.7 million live videos between midnight and 5 PM EDT, with a peak of 781,000 simultaneous streams. FoxNews.com drew 3.4 million live streams as of 5 PM EDT, with a peak of 676,821 simultaneous streams. Finally, MSNBC.com visitors watched 3 million live video streams of the tribute as of 5 PM.
And while the "tubes" might have swelled, they managed to hold up well under the strain.
